School's Out for Summer!

Today was the last day of school.

We signed yearbooks, cleaned out our desks, and even cleaned the AlphaSmarts! Thank Alexandra!

Students finished writing on our Memory Board, while others had some final fun with clay and tessellations!

Our Memory Board

Student tessellations

Does this tessellation bug you? (Video destruction coming this summer!)

A delicious sundae for Mrs. Yollis!

Are those new glasses?

One poor student was clayed to his desk!

Mustache Man returns!

As the seconds slipped away on Mrs. Yollis' giant hour glass, some interesting shapes appeared.

At 12:15, the last grain of sand fell through the hour glass and school was officially over! Although students and teachers enjoy vacations, we will all miss being together as a class!

One final group hug and the third graders became fourth graders!

Here is Mrs. Yollis' annual good-bye video!

What are some of your favorite memories from the year?

What are your plans for the summer (or winter)?

  1. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

I really enjoyed your video. It was a nice good bye. My favorite memories of the year are probably learning how to write a paragraph with 3 main ideas and 3 details for each main idea.

I will miss you very much and I am glad I will see you next year. Have a great summer.

    Sincerely,
    Sarah

I will miss you very much, and I hope you will come by and visit next year!

Do you have any summer plans?

Thank you so much for responding back to me. I will also miss you very much and hope you will have a great summer. I will definitely stop by your classroom next year. Do you have any fun plans for the summer?

We are going to Hawaii in the summer but this year we are going to the island of Kauai. Have you ever been there? What was it like? Miriam and I will do many posts about our trip on our blogs.

      Sincerely,

  2. Dear Mrs Yollis and students,

Wow I cannot believe it that you are out for your summer holidays. I have to say time has really flown so fast. Well they do say that "time flies when your having fun" which I do agree.

What a super time you have all had with your awesome teacher Mrs Yollis. I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all the best for your next year of schooling and thank you for the wonderful comments you have all written. I have learnt so much from you all. :)

I have many favourite memories but my all time favourite was the story which you all wrote and recorded "Bad News Bev."

As your season will be summer for me it will be winter. What I plan to do during this winter is keep warm and hopefully get a chance to read more novels.

    Enjoy everyone.

It has been another great year, but it truly is hard to believe! It has gone so fast!

Bad News Bev took us a long time to write. We had the beginning written, but we could not figure out how to fix Bev. Then Matthew came up with the Star Wars twist and gave Panda the father line, that's when it all came together. We loved including Alma and Bianca in the story! :-)

Enjoy your winter reading! I have several good to start during my break. :-)

  3. Dear Mrs Yollis,

I hope you had a nice good-bye to your students! It was really funny when Mrs Morris told 4KM and 4KJ that your school has holidays in the middle of the year!

My plans for winter would probalby be just relaxing and catching up with my cousins.

My favourite memory from your grade is doing our global project,"The Tale Trail." I hope your students enjoyed that as well!

I hope you have a nice holiday! (vacation)

Thanks for a terrific comment! I know what you mean about having holidays in the middle of the year! It always seems funny to me when your school ends in December because that is winter here in the northern hemisphere. Time zones and seasons are so hard to comprehend sometimes!

Now that I'm out of school, I can spend more time teaching Buck! :-) He needs to learn how to behave before Mr. and Mrs. Morris arrive!

I loved making the Tale Trail too!

What will you and your cousins do for fun this winter?

Yes, I will miss my students! A lot of times, my former students stop by for a visit which makes me very happy.

I had a wonderful birthday! It started out with a surprise birthday blog post from my Australian buddy, Bianca! So sweet! My students brought me lovely gifts, flowers, and even a giant birthday balloon!

A highlight of my summer is going to be meeting Mrs. Morris! She has become a wonderful friend to me, and I can't wait to meet her at the airport! We've only Skyped, but never actually met!

  11. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

I thank you with all of my heart for giving me a fantastic year of being taught by you, the teacher of the year! Although I am ecstatic about moving to fourth grade, I will never forget the good times we had in our classroom in room 12 that I will always cherish and keep in my heart. Whoever is going to go in your classroom next year and take our spots, they are in for a treat because they have got the most factual, interesting, smart, caring, thoughtful teacher that has won the teacher of the year award for a reason.

I have had some fun, sad, let downs, exciting, not interesting, VERY interesting memories, but I have a few that stood out like a bright full moon. I enjoyed playing silent speed ball, Fun Friday, molding monstrous clay, writing on the memorable memory board, and when Mr. Yollis came and shared about his amazing adventure going to Alaska and teaching us about big brown boisterous bears. Hey, Bad News Bev! :)

For the stupendous summer, I am traveling to hot and humid Miami, Florida! It is going to be a mother daughter trip so I am going on an only girl trip with my mom. The tremendous trip is going to last for two weeks. For the first wonderful week, we are flying to Orlando, Florida. We are going to get a hotel, and go to Disneyworld! I have never been, so I am really ecstatic! My mom has been there many times when she was a kid because she lived there, but the last time she went was on her graduation night. She doesn't really remember it that well, but she knows that she had a magnificent time with her friends. The next week, we are going to rent a car and drive the long and exhausting four hour car trip to our condo in South Beach. We are just going to relax and lay down at the beach. Now that sounds like summer!

What are you doing for summer?

As always, your comment made me smile! You are a gifted writer and always take such care to write thoughtful, quality comments! I will miss you, but I know you'll come and visit me! Plus, we can stay connected through our blogs!

I enjoyed reading your favorite memories of the year. Many are on the top of my list too! For me, the Our World, Our Stories project was a real highlight. I loved learning about our blogging friends, reading the Mem Fox story, and of course...singing together. Mr. Yollis was very happy to hear that you enjoyed his presentation so much, and I echo your high praise about his visit. :-)

Have a delightful time in sunny Florida! I wonder what kind of wildlife you will see there! I know there are a lot of fantastic birds, but maybe you'll see some alligators and crocodiles...from a distance!

Some summer plans that I have are meeting Mrs. Morris and presenting with her at the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE). I look forward to learning from teachers all over the world and meeting some Twitter friends, like CybraryMan! :-) I'll be doing some posts about the conference.

I hope you'll be doing some Florida posts as I've never been to that state. I know that it is nicknamed the Sunshine State and that its largest lake is Lake Okeechobee. In fact, Lake Okeechobee is the the second largest freshwater lake in the United States! Florida is also home to Everglades National Park too.

Have a blast at Disney World! Say hi to Mickey for me!

      Enjoy your summer!

      Mrs. Y♥llis

    2. @ Mrs. Y♥llis,

Thank you for commenting back to me! That is why it is great to have a blog, you can connect with people with out seeing them. I will miss you as well, and will definitely visit our former classroom location for lunch ins. I am really sad that I will not be in your classroom and that you will not be educating me anymore, but I am exciting because I will retrieve a new teacher and I am sure I will like her almost as much as I loved you.

Oh no! I forgot to add Our World, Our Stories! That was definitely in my top five memorable memories. I adored the global writing project because I got to connect with five different marvelous classes. My favorite theme for Our World, Our Stories would probably be recess games because everybody does different things for recess, and because you could learn a new game from somebody. A lot of people learned the game Bamboo from our video of you successfully playing it. Please tell Mr. Yollis I said thank you because I learned so much that day and also had a great time looking at the bears, fish and the beautiful location around them.

There is palm trees everywhere in Florida. They are all about five feet away from each other. They are sometimes distracting on the road because all you see is green!

It looks like you are going to have fun going to the International Society for Technology in Education with Mrs. Morris. You must do a post about meeting CybraryMan because he was the one who taught us how to write a quality story! Bad News Bev! :)

I will do many posts on the topic of my trip to Florida like DisneyWorld, the beach, the pool, the palm trees, dinner, stores and much more! The nickname is called the Sunshine State because it is always hot outside. If it is pouring rain, it is still 90 degrees F.

I have a funny story about my grandma, grandpa, uncle, and my mom going to the Everglades. One day, they took a trip to the
Everglades. They were walking by a swamp and my uncle spots a mosquito nest. He chucks a rock at it and thousands of mosquitos come swarming out! Everybody there got so many bites and were itching themselves like maniacs! My family decided to run to the bus to get away from the annoying insects. On the bus ride home, everybody was itching all over the place because they had hundreds of mosquito bites everywhere!

      Have a great summer!

I was extremely sad to leave your classroom. I will never forget the memories that I had with you. The moment I put a foot out of your classroom, I felt like crying. I have never felt like doing this about any other teacher because none were as marvelous as you. I know that next year twenty-five lucky second graders will get you as their teacher. You are defenetely a teacher I will never forget.

At the same time as being sad, I am also excited about summer. I will be going to Sequoia National Park. I have never been there before and I am very excited about it.
